SHEKHUPURA: A tragic incident occurred in the Narang Mandi area of Sheikhupura’s tehsil Muridke, where Pakistan Ulema Council leader and renowned religious scholar Qari Abid Hussain Farooqi was shot dead by unidentified assailants.
According to media reports, Qari Abid Farooqi was riding a motorcycle when two unidentified gunmen on another motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire near Deewan Khas Marriage Hall roundabout. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Lahore’s Mayo Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
The attackers managed to flee the scene, while police registered a case and launched a search operation to trace the culprits.
Religious, political, and social leaders expressed deep grief over Qari Abid Farooqi’s death and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible. Following the killing, protests erupted in different areas of Narang.
In Kot Abdul Malik, a demonstration led by local leader Ghulam Nabi blocked GT Road, demanding swift justice. Other leaders, including Hafiz Muhammad Ashfaq Gujar and Maulana Muhammad Ashraf Tahir, also pressed authorities for immediate arrests.
The protesters gave police a deadline of September 8 to apprehend the attackers, warning that failure to do so would result in sit-ins and larger protest calls.
