ISLAMABAD: Former minister Fawad Chaudhry was on Tuesday produced in a local court which gave him in the police custody for one more day in a fraud case.
Chaudhry was brought to the court with his face and head covered with a piece of cloth. He asked his brother Advocate Faisal Chaudhry to file a contempt case for it.
Faisal told the court that his brother was a former federal minister and a Supreme Court lawyer. He said he was going to file a contempt of court case against covering of Chaudhry’s head with cloth for a second time.
Today, the public prosecutor sought an extension in the custody of Chaudhry saying he was not cooperating in the investigation to recover the money and a pistol. The court allowed one more day for the custody.
On November 5, Chaudhry was handed over to the police for two days in connection with the inquiry of a fraud case in which he was arrested on November 4.
Chaudhry, a former leader of the PTI, had joined the newly-formed Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party after the May 9 violence following the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan However, he reportedly backtracked from his decision to part ways with Imran Khan.
Earlier, he was arrested soon after the May 9 incidents, but released. Chaudhry was again picked up from his house in Islamabad on November 4 and taken to an undisclosed location on November 4.
The court was told that Chaudhry while a minister had taken Rs0.5 million from a citizen promising him a job. However, neither he arranged the job nor returned the money to the applicant.
The job applicant, Zaheer, filed a case against Chaudhry in the Aabpara police station of Islamabad. However, Chaudhry told the court that the case was fake and the complainant even did not turn up at the court.
