Resolution of Kashmir issue only under UN resolutions: FO

Pakistan has always opposed unilateral move and will continue to do so in the future, says spokesperson.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reiterated its longstanding policy that the issue of Kashmir issue could only be resolved through the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

At a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Pakistan had stood for the resolution of the Kashmir issue under the UNSC resolutions that provided for giving a chance to the people of Kashmir to decide about their future.

She said that Indian government in August 2019 took a unilateral decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir which was illegal. Pakistan never accepted and won’t accept any such decision for the resolution of the issue.

She said that the Kashmir issue was an international one recognized as such by the UN Security Council resolutions and it has to be resolved keeping in view the wishes of the Kashmiri people about their future.

The spokesperson also said that without resolving the issue in accordance with the resolutions of the UNSC, peace cannot be restored in South Asia. The resolution of the issue was also imperative for international peace as it involved two nuclear countries in South Asia.
