Another piece of bad news for inflation-stricken people … In the case of a two-month fuel price adjustment, electricity is likely to become more expensive by Rs 1.52 per unit, NEPRA will decide after a hearing on December 30.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested to increase the price of electricity by 57 paise per unit for October and 95 paise per unit for November in terms of fuel price adjustment. The reference fuel cost of electricity was Rs 3.75 per unit.
According to the CPPA’s request, 31 per cent electricity was generated from water, 18.70 per cent from coal, 11.18 per cent from domestic gas, 27.83 per cent from imported LNG in October and 39.98 per cent from water in November. 14.65 per cent from coal, 5.84 per cent from local gas and 25.59 per cent from imported LNG.
The petition states that the production cost of electricity in November was Rs 3.42 per unit while the reference fuel cost was Rs 2.48 per unit. NEPRA will hear the CPPA’s request on December 30. A decision on the price increase is likely.
