MOSCOW: Russia has expressed concern over the ongoing situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging both countries to resolve their issues through dialogue.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today highlighting reports of clashes and armed confrontations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The statement noted that in recent days, there have been reports of clashes involving aircraft and heavy weaponry in border areas, raising serious concerns in Moscow. It also highlighted that Afghan refugees returning from Pakistan and Iran are being affected by the heightened border tensions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called on both Kabul and Islamabad to avoid military confrontation and stressed that all disputes should be resolved through negotiations based on mutual respect.
On a separate note, the ministry commented on broader regional tensions, particularly concerning Iran, Israel and the United States, stating that Washington and Tel Aviv do not appear ready to exercise restraint or prevent bloodshed. The statement added that aggressive actors are attempting to sow divisions within the Muslim world.
