According to Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition forces, the missile was destroyed before it could reach its intended target.
He said two loud explosions were heard in Riyadh during the incident. Residents also received emergency alerts on their mobile phones.
In response to the potential missile threat, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence issued an air threat alert for the capital.
However, after the missile attack was successfully thwarted, the authorities withdrew the alert.
