TEHARAN: Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz arrived in Iran with a delegation.
General Mohammad Baqeri, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, welcomed the delegation on arrival in Tehran.
According to a foreign news agency, Iranian state media said Prince Khalid bin Salman delivered a message from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but the details of the message were not disclosed.
According to Iranian media, Ayatollah Khamenei said in the meeting that relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are beneficial for both countries. He also expressed Iran’s determination to remove obstacles in its relations with Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi defense minister’s visit comes ahead of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran in Rome this week.
Iran and Saudi Arabia restored diplomatic relations in 2023 after years of tensions under a deal brokered by China. Last year, the chief of staff of Saudi Arabia’s armed forces also visited Iran.
