Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Passes Away

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, passed away on Tuesday morning, the Royal Court announced through the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Funeral prayers will be held after Asr at Riyadh’s Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque. The Royal Court described his death as “a great loss to the Kingdom and the Muslim world,” noting his lifelong dedication to the Quran, Sunnah, and guidance of Muslims.

Sheikh Abdulaziz also headed the Council of Senior Scholars, the Kingdom’s highest religious body, and was entrusted with delivering the Hajj sermon.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman offered condolences. King Salman directed absentee funeral prayers (Salat al-Gha’ib) to be performed at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, and mosques across Saudi Arabia.
