SC practice and procedure amendment law comes into force
ISLAMABAD: The supreme court practice and procedure amendment Act 2024 has come into force after President Asif Ali Zardari signed the legislation.
Minister for information and broadcasting Ata Tarar told media that the president has signed the act in a law.
The new law has clipped the chief justice of Pakistan of its power to form benches. Moreover, it has also given the right of appeal to the affected party is in a suo motu case judgement.
Parliament passed the law in April 2023 under which a three-member bench, comprising the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) and two senior-most judges of the apex court, will decide whether or not to take up a matter suo motu.
Soon after the Act was signed into law, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa named Justice Aminuddin Khan as a member of the committee to form benches in place of Justice Munib Akhtar.
The three-member committee besides formation of benches also review cases related to human rights.
