ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has set a date for the hearing of a presidential reference filed over 12 years ago against the hanging of PPP’s founder and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1979.
According to the apex court, a larger bench of nine judges headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa will take up the petition on December 12.
The reference was filed in the apex court by the then PPP government through the president Asif Ali Zardari in 2011.
The apex court started hearing the reference after forming an 11-member bench headed by former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. The bench held six hearings of the reference from January 2012 to Nov 2012, but could not issue a judgement.
