ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday dismissed the review petition filed by Zahir Jaffer, upholding his death sentence in the high-profile murder case of Noor Muqaddam.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Hashim Kakar heard the case. During the proceedings, Jaffer’s counsel, Khawaja Haris, argued that the court had not adequately determined the convict’s mental health status and had failed to decide on a request for the formation of a medical board.

The review petition also contended that the conviction relied on video recordings that were allegedly not properly verified during the trial and were not made available to the defense.

After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court rejected the review plea, leaving intact its earlier verdict that upheld Jaffer’s death sentence for the murder of Noor Muqaddam.

The ruling effectively exhausts Jaffer’s legal remedies before the Supreme Court in one of Pakistan’s most widely followed criminal cases.
