SRINAGAR: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir while a curfew like situation prevailed in the disputed territory as part of security clampdown on Monday.

This was Modi’s first visit to occupied Kashmir after a local government was formed in the territory following an election, the first since India abolished Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier visited and inspected a tunnel which Modi inaugurated today.

The 6.4-km tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh highway will keep Sonamarg open to tourists round the year and also links Kashmir valley with Ladakh.

However, many political parties like the APHC condemned the Indian prime minister’s visit as a propaganda exercise to hoodwink the world about the ground realities in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the visit was seen as an attempt to project a facade of normalcy and development while concealing India’s grave human rights violations and oppressive policies in the disputed territory.

Over 0.5 million occupation forces are deployed in the disputed territory who ate accused of involvement in gross human rights violations and extra-judicial killings, gang rape and abductions of people.

Thousands of Kashmiris have been picked and taken away by the occupation forces during so-called combing operations, and most of them are rotting in Indian jails without any trial.

On the other hand, the United Nations Security Council has failed to implement its resolutions promising to give the right to self-determination to the people of occupied Jammu decades ago.
