ISLAMABAD: A special session of the Senate was held on Monday in which the lawmakers condemned Israeli atrocities and aggressive actions against the innocent Palestinians.
The debate on the burning issue was started by Leader of the House Ishaq Dar of the PML-N. He said massacre of Palestinians was a matter of concern not only for the Muslim Ummah but the whole world.
He called upon the government of Pakistan to strongly raise voice for the plight of Palestinian people at different forums. Dar said Palestinians deserved peace and security as anybody else in the world and they should be given their right to live as an independent nation.
Other lawmakers including Shahzad Waseem, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Ali Zafar, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Mushtaq Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmad and Tahir Bizenjo said Israel was an oppressor and a terrorist state, but the silence of human rights organizations was more unfortunate.
They said Israeli air strikes on hospitals and other facilities and blockade of essential food items, medicines and water was a violation of international laws.
About 8,000 civilians including children and women have been martyred by the bombardment on Gaza. Supplies to Palestinians have been cut off. The Palestinians are fighting for a just cause to get freedom from illegal occupation.
They said a delegation of the Senate should visit the Palestinian embassy to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza and illegal occupation of Palestinian territory is not acceptable.
