RAWALPINDI: A sepoy embraced martyrdom when terrorists attacked a convoy of Pakistani peacekeepers in Sudan, the Inter-Services Public Relations stated in a statement here.
It said that the Pakistani peacekeepers were taking two Sudanese patients to hospital in Abyei area of Sudan when armed persons attacked them. The Pakistani peacekeepers bravely fought the terrorists off but during the exchange of firing, one of the troopers embraced martyrdom, it added.
The ISPR identified the fallen soldier as Muhammad Tariq, a native of Badin in Sindh. Two jawans were also injured, in the attack, the ISPR added.
It said so far 181 Pakistanis have sacrificed their lives while performing peacekeeping in different parts of the world.
“Pakistan remains committed to its role as a responsible member of the international community and will continue to contribute towards global peace and stability under the auspices of the United Nations,” the ISPR added.
