Nine Pakistani laborers murdered in Iran

Ambassador says matter would be taken up with Iranian authorities to trace the culprits in gruesome murder of laborers.

QUETTA: Nine Pakistani laborers were shot dead and three others injured in Sarawan town of Iran, media reports said here on Saturday.

According to the Iranian media reports, the Pakistanis were shot dead by unknown people in the Sarawan area of Siestan province bordering Balochistan.

The reports added that the laborers were working in a workshop and staying at their workplace. So far, no group has accepted responsibility for the murders.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu confirmed the murder of the nine laborers. He said the consul general of Pakistan at Zahidan had reached Sawaran to help in sending the dead bodies home. He said that the matter would be taken up with the Iranian authorities for attesting the culprits.

It may be noted that after Iran violated Pakistan’s air space on Jan 16, Pakistan retaliated by targeting Baloch terror outfits’ bases in Siestan province.

However, soon afterwards, the two countries normalized their relations. The latest killing of the innocent laborers could be a ploy of the enemies of the two countries to pitch them against each other once again.
