Seven Pakistanis executed, over 14,000 in jails of different countries

Report says most of the Pakistanis are imprisoned in UAE and Saudi Arabia.

ISLAMABAD: Over 14,000 Pakistanis are languishing in jails of different countries on charges of financial crimes, visa rules violations, murder, drug trafficking and rape or sexual harassment. 

Moreover, in the last one year, seven Pakistanis have been executed in different countries, a report said, adding 183 Pakistanis were executed from 2010 to 2023.

According to the report, 5292 Pakistanis were imprisoned in the UAE, 3100 in Saudi Arabia, 811 in Greece, 683 in India snd 586 Pakistanis are languishing in Italy. Moreover, 540 Pakistanis are also jailed in Oman.

It may be mentioned here that a large number of people from Pakistan have been migrating out of the country to different parts of the world, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in search on of jobs.

Human smugglers have also been active in sending in people abroad through illegal means, and as a result most of them ended up in jails of different countries or were deported. 

Hundreds of people also lost their lives in shipwrecks while trying to enter Europe during the last one year.

The report by an NGO calls on the government to ensure Pakistan’s embassies and missions provided diplomatic assistance to the Pakistani nationals abroad.

It also announced to take steps for creating awareness among Pakistanis abroad about their rights in case of arrest in any other country under the international laws.
