Speaking about the team’s leadership, Shadab backed current T20 captain Salman Ali Agha, saying he has been performing well and should be given more time to establish himself in the role.
Shadab stressed that frequently changing the captain would not improve the team’s situation and emphasised the importance of continuity in leadership.
The all-rounder also said that the Pakistan Cricket Board had not contacted him regarding the T20 captaincy.
Earlier this year, reports had suggested that Salman Ali Agha could be replaced by Shadab as captain following Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
However, Shadab has now publicly supported Salman and called for stability in Pakistan’s T20 leadership.
Shadab first led Pakistan during the 2020 tour of New Zealand when regular captain Babar Azam was ruled out due to injury. Pakistan lost that three-match series 2-1. He has also captained Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.
