LAHORE: PML-N leader and former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and all other 10 accused persons have been acquitted of charges in the Ashiana scam case.
The accountability court in Lahore announced its verdict in the corruption case registered against him and others in the year 2018. The other accused included Fawad Hassan Fawad and Ahmed Cheema.
Kamran Kiani and Nadeem Zia have already been acquitted in the case.
According to the case, over 16,000 poor people had invested about 600 million rupees in the Ashiana housing scheme, but due to failure of the officials concerned the project could not materialized. NAB had earlier declared Shehbaz Sharif “innocent”, adding contract for the project had no indications of corruption.
It told the court that neither the national coffers nor Mr Shehbaz had received any financial gain from the initiative.
“It is proved beyond any doubt that the treasury didn’t suffer any loss.”
