ANKARA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his two-day official visit to Türkiye, met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
Both the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the historic and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Türkiye.
Upon arrival, Prime Minister Sharif was warmly received by Türkiye’s Minister of National Defense, marking the beginning of his visit with high-level protocol and respect. The highlight of the visit was the bilateral meeting between the two heads of state, followed by a joint press conference.
According to the official communiqué, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the state of bilateral ties and pledged to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of enhancing economic engagement through joint ventures and investment initiatives. He highlighted key sectors such as energy, mining, defense, and agriculture as areas ripe for collaboration.
Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif underlined the potential for cooperation in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, reflecting Pakistan’s growing focus on technological advancement.
The two sides also reviewed progress on decisions taken by the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, a key platform for institutionalizing bilateral relations.
In their discussions on regional and global issues, both leaders voiced serious concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. They called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized the need for urgent humanitarian assistance to the affected Palestinian population.
President Erdogan appreciated Pakistan’s continued support for the Palestinian cause and praised its role in advocating for regional peace and stability.
The visit concluded with a formal dinner hosted by President Erdogan in honor of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
This visit is expected to add momentum to the already strong Pakistan-Türkiye partnership, with a renewed focus on strategic, economic, and humanitarian cooperation.
