ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s pivotal role in the global fight against terrorism, honoring the victims and heroes of this ongoing struggle.
In a message on the International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, the Prime Minister said Pakistan stands united with those affected by terrorism worldwide. “Expressing solidarity with victims reflects the sincere national sentiment of Pakistan,” he added.
He emphasized that citizens of all ages, alongside the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, have actively participated in combating terrorism. Pakistan has confronted this menace with courage, resilience, and sacrifice, ultimately overcoming extremist threats.
Highlighting the human and economic cost, PM Sharif noted that more than 90,000 lives were lost in the fight against terrorism, while the country’s economy also suffered significant setbacks. He added that every city, town, road, market, and school in Pakistan tells a story of terrorism and the resilience of its people.
“While our society mourns these sacrifices, it also takes pride in its bravery. The younger generation is growing up with the commitment that protecting national security is the responsibility of every citizen,” he said.
The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of federal and provincial governments, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies. He cited operations such as Zarb-e-Azb, Radd-ul-Fasaad, and intelligence-based initiatives that have successfully thwarted terrorist threats, safeguarding countless lives across the nation.
He concluded by paying tribute to the victims and martyrs of terrorism and commending the institutions actively combating it. He described the National Action Plan as a comprehensive strategy that integrates ideological, administrative, institutional, and narrative-based measures to counter terrorism effectively.
