ISLAMABAD: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Thursday arrived on a two-day visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The prime minister along with some of his cabinet members welcomed the Azeri president at the Nor Khan airbase in Rawalpindi.
President Aliyev laterf in the day visited Shakarparyan and laid wreath at the monument of Pakistan.
According to the state media, the Azeri president will hold meetings with the prime minister and President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday and Friday. “The two sides will engage in wide-ranging discussions on areas of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.”
Several agreements and memorandums of understanding are also expected to be signed by the two countries during the visit.
It may be noted here that the president of Azerbaijan was invited to visit Pakistan by Prime Minister Sharif who visited Central Asian states during the recent summit of the SCO in Astana.
