NEW DELHI: After being passed by the Indian Lok Sabha, the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill has also been presented in the Upper House, the Rajya Sabha.
The Indian Lok Sabha passed the controversial ‘Waqf Amendment Bill’ presented by the government yesterday, which faced strong opposition from Congress members.
According to reports, the controversial bill has now been presented in the Indian Upper House, the Rajya Sabha, where support from 119 out of 236 members is required for its approval.
On the other hand, following Congress, the hardline Hindu organization Shiv Sena has also spoken out against the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill.
In the Upper House, Shiv Sena member from Maharashtra, Sanjay Raut, said that the Modi government is showing more concernd for Muslims than perhaps even Mohammad Ali Jinnah ever did.
The Shiv Sena MP said that the BJP, which calls Muslims terrorists and traitors, is now claiming to sell Waqf properties to fund the marriages of Muslim girls—this is nothing but a deception.
It may be mentioned here that critics have expressed concerns that the Modi government is eyeing Muslim properties worth trillions of rupees by passing the controversial law from parliament.
