Shutter-down strike enters third day in Gilgit-Baltistan

All major roads, including KKH, Gilgit-Hunza abd Skardu roads are blocked.

GILGIT: The shutter-down strike and protest launched by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan entered third day on Sunday with the angry masses vowing to continue it till acceptance of their demands.

The shutter-down strike has been launched in the second phase of the mass agitation against an increase in the price of subsidized wheat being provided to the region.

Earlier, a protest sit-in was staged here but after talks with government failed the masses launched the shutter-down strike three days ago.

On Saturday, people from far-off areas such as Hunza joined the main protest at Ittehad Chowk in the Gilgit city.

On Sunday, traffic was blocked on all main highways including Karakoram Highway, Gilgit to Hunza and Skardu roads.

The representatives of the protesters said that they would continue their protest till the government accepts all their demands.

On the other hand, a government official said that efforts were being made to negotiate with the protesters to resolve the issue in consultation with the federal government.
