CALGARY (CANADA): Hundreds of thousands of Sikh community members took part in a referendum for the establishment of a separate state.
Despite Indian bids to sabotage the process, the Sikh community members turned out in a large number and voted for a separate state.
The referendum was held in Calgary where the process of voting started by families of Sikh martyrs. The Sikh community members chanted slogans for their rights and condemned Indian bids to sabotage the process.
It may be mentioned here that at present there are over one million Sikhs in Canada and about 0.1 million of them live in Calgary.
