LONDON: Members of the Sikh community in the United Kingdom staged a protest in London in support of the Bangladeshi government and against India.
The protesters held the demonstration outside the Bangladesh High Commission and chanted slogans against India.
According to media reports, protesters expressed solidarity with Bangladesh following the killing of Usman Hadi, who was associated with a student movement that played a key role in the recent political upheaval in Bangladesh.
Demonstrators said that Usman Hadi’s killing would become a catalyst for further change and accused the Indian government of attempting to suppress voices that expose what they described as India’s “true face” to the world.
The protesters alleged that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was involved in the targeting and killing of political opponents and activists abroad.
During the demonstration, participants raised slogans against India and called for international attention to the situation in Bangladesh.
Usman Hadi, a spokesperson for the student movement that contributed significantly to the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s government, was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants a few days ago. He was later shifted to Singapore for medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following his death, large-scale protests were also held in Bangladesh outside the Indian High Commission, with thousands of people condemning the killing and accusing India of interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.
