Silence beneath the lamp
Dr Shakira Nandini
The night was at its peak silence. In a dimly lit room, a young woman sat at the edge of a table, her elbow resting on its surface, lost in her thoughts, quiet as the still air around her. In front of her, on the table, was an antique lamp whose soft glow fell on her face, highlighting her deep contemplations.
She was immersed in the ocean of a profound thought. The gentleness of her face and the dampness in her eyes spoke of an untold story, as if the weight of her thoughts rested upon her lashes. The light of the lamp, which filled the room with a faint golden hue, seemed to try to peer into the depths of her heart.
The lamp of the heart burns with dreams’ light,
Every moment is a shadowed plight.
This young woman, Natalie, was lost in the memories of days gone by. A few years ago, her heart was filled with a dream – a dream overflowing with love, hope, and joy. But the harsh realities of life shattered that dream into fragments. The dream, once the center of her existence, had now faded into a dim memory.
The lamp’s flame flickered, sometimes dimming, sometimes brightening, mirroring Natalie’s state of mind. Echoes of those beautiful moments from the past resonated in her thoughts, moments when she tried to grasp every second of life in her hands. Yet now, those moments seemed like distant, blurred dreams.
A question lingered in Natalie’s heart: Is it destiny to always lose happiness in life? Is one only left with memories? She repeatedly sought answers to these questions but found none. The lamp’s glow reminded her that these unanswered questions would always smolder in the dark corners of her heart.
With the grief of life, lamps grow dim
Yet hearts’ flames offer courage within.
Suddenly, a gust of wind entered the room, causing the lamp’s flame to tremble. Natalie lifted her head and gazed at the lamp. It felt as if the lamp was trying to say something to her. She moved closer to the lamp, her curiosity awakened to hear its secret.
“Life is like this lamp,” Natalie murmured to herself, “bright one moment, dim the next. But its flame never completely extinguishes, as long as one keeps the hope alive.”
With this thought, a strange wave of peace coursed through Natalie’s heart. She realized that life’s struggles and failures could not extinguish her spirit as long as she kept the light of hope burning within her.
In the darkness of the night, the lamp’s flame and Natalie’s thoughts seemed to be in conversation. Despite life’s bitterness, the light of hope always finds its way. And so, the secret behind Natalie’s silence became the proof of her soul’s resilience.
