Karachi: Lawyers across Sindh have announced a province-wide strike on August 4 in protest against the killing of senior advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam, who was shot dead in Karachi a few days ago.
The Sindh Bar Council made the announcement, demanding the immediate arrest of the identified suspect, Imran Afridi. The suspect’s father, Nabi Gul, was a Sindh Police head constable who was deployed for the lawyer’s security in the past and later murdered.
In a video, Imran Afridi stated that Advocate Islam had first kidnapped and later killed his father and despite pursuing the case for four years he could not get justice and killed the lawyer
According to police reports, Khawaja Shamsul Islam was attending a funeral with his son in DHA Phase 6 when a gunman wearing traditional attire opened fire, fatally injuring him and wounding his son. The attacker then escaped on a motorcycle.
Both were taken to a nearby private hospital, but Khawaja Shamsul Islam succumbed to his injuries. His son remains under medical treatment.
Two relatives of the fugitive suspect have been arrested, while the main accused remains at large. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, aiding the investigation.
Legal bodies have condemned the attack, calling it a grave threat to the legal community and demanding swift justice.
