Six get life imprisonment in JUI leader’s murder case

Party leader says convicts should have been sentenced to death after murder charges confirmed.

SUKKUR: Six persons have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of JUI-F leader Khalid Soomro in Sukkur, Sindh.

Soomro was shot dead on November 29, 2014, in Sukkur. The trial of his murder was conducted inside the Sukkur jail by an Anti-Terrorism Court. The six persons were arrested in the caseĀ 

The court conducted as many as 450 hearings in the case. The court had reserved judgement on December 13 this year and announced the verdict on Friday. Tight security measures had been taken in and outside the jail on this occasion.

The judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court Abdur Rehman Qazi found all the six persons guilty of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs1 million each.

After the announcement of the verdict, JUI-F leader Rashid Mehmood Soomro said after finding guilty of the murder the convicts should have been sentenced to death. He said that they would appeal against the verdict in the high court.
