ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir on Wednesday said that propaganda on social media is aimed at creating uncertainty, chaos and dispondency in the country.
He stated this while addressing a national youth conference held at Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad. He said without positive thinking a nation can always remain in chaos.
The army chief also said that Quran teaches us about truth and to verify any information and news before spreading it in society.
He said armed forces were always ready to defend the motherland against every type of internal and external threat.
He said Pakistan’s security and well being was top most priority for its citizens, adding armed forces like in the past would meet the expectations of the nation.
It may be noted that unregulated media in Pakistan has become a major issue as unverified and misleading information and one-sided propaganda not only leading to confusion but also to polarization in society.
Propaganda and misleading contents on social media have on many occasions led to chaos and mayhem in society.
YouTube was kept closed for a couple of years in the country in the past. But closing a social media platform is not a solution rather there is a need to regulate and properly use it for social good.
