Solicitor seeks increase in sentences of Sara’s killers

Court of Appeals will now decide whether or not to increase the sentences against father and stepmother of 10-year-old girl.

LONDON: The solicitor has ought an increase in the sentences pronnouned by a London court against the killers of 10-year-old Sara murder case.

In this regard, the Solicitor General has approached the Court of Appeal to increase the sentence of Sara Sharif’s killer father Irfan Sharif. The Solicitor General is of the view that Sara Sharif had to go through unimaginable pain, distress and anxiety.

The appeal stated that the girl’s father Irfan Sharif was given an unusually lenient sentence, a minimum of 40 years imprisonment. Her stepmother was sentenced to 33 years.

The Court of Appeals will now decide whether or not to increase the sentenced. 

The body of 10-year-old was found at her home in Woking on August 10, 2023. British police said Sarah’s father, an uncle and stepmother had left for Pakistan a few hours before Sarah’s body was found.

The UK government had approached Pakistan for the arrest of the accused. On their return to the UK a month later, the three were detained and put in trial.

The 43-year-old father and his wife Beenish Batool, 30, were convicted of murder at the Old Bailey on January 3 this year after an eight-week trial. His brother, Faisal Malik, 29, was found guilty of causing or allowing Sara’s death.
