South Africa Equalizes Series with 8-Wicket Win Against Pakistan
FAISALABAD: South Africa defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the second match of the three-match ODI series, leveling the series 1-1.
Chasing a target of 270 runs, South Africa comfortably reached the target in just 40.1 overs, losing only 2 wickets.
Pakistan, in their allotted 50 overs, scored 269 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Salman Agha top-scored with 69 runs, while Mohammad Nawaz contributed 59 runs.
The match, played at Iqbal Cricket Stadium in Faisalabad, saw Pakistan win the toss and choose to bat first against the visiting South African team.
Pakistan’s innings were off to a difficult start as South Africa’s bowlers quickly dismantled the Pakistani top order. Opener Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for a duck, while Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan made only 11 and 4 runs, respectively, before heading back to the pavilion.
After the fall of 3 early wickets, Salman Ali Agha and Saeem Ayub steadied the innings with responsible batting, forming a partnership and both scoring half-centuries. However, Saeem was dismissed for 53 runs, and Salman Ali Agha was out for 69. Hussain Talat was also dismissed for 10 runs, further complicating Pakistan’s position.
In the final overs, Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf batted with responsibility, with Nawaz scoring 59 runs and Faheem contributing 28 runs before they were both dismissed. Pakistan ended their innings with 269 runs for 9 wickets in their 50 overs.
Pakistan had won the first match of the series, while today’s second match ended in South Africa’s favor. The third and final match of the series is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, at Iqbal Stadium.
