DARWIN: Cricket Australia has announced 14-member squads for both the T20 and ODI series against South Africa, with Mitchell Marsh named captain in both formats.
The two white-ball series will take place across Darwin, Cairns, and Mackay, offering valuable game time ahead of a packed international calendar.
Notably, senior bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been rested from the ODI squad. Rising star Mitchell Owen has been rewarded with his maiden ODI call-up following a string of impressive performances.
Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood feature in both squads, while Matthew Short makes his return after recovering from injury. Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann is included in the T20 squad.
Pacer Lance Morris marks his comeback to the national setup for the first time since November’s series against Pakistan. However, players like Sean Abbott, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tanveer Sangha, Cooper Connolly, and Aaron Hardie have not been included in either squad.
Australia’s T20 squad features a balanced mix of experience and flair. Mitchell Marsh will lead a group that includes proven match-winners like Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, and Travis Head, alongside power-hitters Tim David and Josh Inglis.
The bowling unit is bolstered by Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Ben Dwarshuis, and spinner Matt Kuhnemann. All-round options such as Cameron Green, Mitchell Owen, and a fit-again Matthew Short provide depth, with Adam Zampa leading the spin department.
In the ODI format, Marsh retains the captaincy and will be supported by a solid batting core of Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, and Josh Inglis. The pace attack includes Josh Hazlewood, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, and a returning Lance Morris, while Xavier Bartlett adds fresh pace to the group.
All-rounders Cameron Green, Mitchell Owen, and Matthew Short boost the squad’s versatility, and Adam Zampa remains the frontline spinner.
