Special courts being set up to hear property cases of overseas Pakistanis

‎ISLAMABAD: The process for the establishment of Special Courts under the Overseas Property Act 2024 has been started in Islamabad.

‎The special courts are being set up for speedy resolution of property disputes of overseas Pakistanis. 

‎In this regard, the acting chief justice of the Islamabad High Court has directed to designate special courts.

‎The Overseas Pakistanis Property Act was passed from parliament last year under which these special courts will hear cases filed by overseas Pakistanis regarding any dispute related to of illegal occupation of their properties in Pakistan.

‎Under the new law, the federal government will set up special courts in consultation with the chief justice of Islamabad High Court to hear cases related to properties of overseas Pakistanis.

‎Under the new law, overseas Pakistanis can file cases related to their properties in Pakistan even through online. The courts will decide the cases in 90 days. 

‎The new law has been formulated to protect the properties of the Pakistanis living and working abroad. Under the new law, any court cases involving property of overseas Pakistanis would be decided in 90 days.

‎In case of any complaint, the overseas Pakistanis could file a court case online from any part of the world.

‎For years, Pakistanis living abroad have been complaining about occupation of their properties such as houses and plots across Pakistan. When they approach courts against the occupiers, it takes years and years to reach a decision.

‎Of late, successive governments have promised to take steps to facilitate the overseas Pakistanis when they face such a problems. The government has now also announced to provide overseas Pakistanis incentives for investment in their home country.
