Sri Lanka resumed their innings in response to India’s imposing first-innings total of 503 runs, but were unable to build enough momentum to avoid the follow-on.
The final two Sri Lankan wickets fell within just 15 minutes on the fourth day as India completed the innings. Sonal Dinusha produced a fine batting display, scoring 103 runs for his second century of the series, but was the last Sri Lankan batter to be dismissed.
India’s debutant spinner Saransh Jain claimed both of the final two wickets to bring Sri Lanka’s innings to an end.
Earlier, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and spinner Manu Suthar took three wickets each to put India firmly in control of the match.
With Sri Lanka trailing by 213 runs on the first innings, India enforced the follow-on, leaving the hosts facing the prospect of an innings defeat.
India already lead the two-Test series 1-0, making the pressure on Sri Lanka even greater as they attempt to stay alive in the series.
