PESHAWAR: One policeman was martyred and at least nine people were injured on Thursday in a blast in the Bara Bazaar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district.
Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) spokesperson said in a statement that seven police personnel and two civilians were injured.
She added that one policeman was martyred in the blast while the condition of three of the injured was “stable”.
KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat confirmed that it was a suicide attack.
He was quoted as saying that two attackers, whom he described as suicide bombers, had tried to enter the premises of an official structure — one from the main gate and the other from the backside.
He said that both the attackers were killed in retaliatory fire from the police when they were intercepted.
The police have obtained DNA samples of the attackers for further investigation, IG Hayat said.
