SUKKUR: Pakistan has added another international feather to its sporting cap as the Lok Suhita Marathon held in Sukkur has been officially certified by World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
The certification formally recognizes the marathon’s course, which begins in Sukkur, stretches to Khairpur, and returns to Sukkur.
This development makes Lok Suhita the second marathon in Pakistan to receive global endorsement, following the Karachi Marathon, which previously earned the World Athletics Label.
The certified course includes three race categories: a full marathon, a half marathon, and a 10-kilometer run, all meeting international standards for distance accuracy and course quality.
Organizers hope the global recognition will attract elite local and international athletes in future editions, promote long-distance running in the country, and place Sukkur on the international marathon map.
The achievement reflects the growing momentum of Pakistan’s athletics scene and its increasing alignment with global sporting bodies.
