RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has completed the second phase of astronaut selection for the country’s human spaceflight program, marking a crucial step toward Pakistan’s first manned space mission.

Following initial screening in Pakistan, two candidates were shortlisted for further evaluation. These candidates underwent comprehensive medical, psychological, and capability assessments at China’s Astronaut Center (ACC), conducted according to international standards for human spaceflight.

The shortlisted candidates will now undertake six months of advanced astronaut training at the ACC in China. Upon completion, one candidate will be selected to participate in a manned mission to the Chinese space station, scheduled for October or November 2026.

This selection process is part of a broader bilateral astronaut cooperation agreement between Pakistan and China, signed in February 2025 under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

China has chosen Pakistan as the first foreign partner in its astronaut program, highlighting the trust and collaboration between the two nations in the field of space exploration.
