Supply of sugar to local consumers first priority: minister

Rana Tanveer says increase in sugar price directly impacts consumers.

ISLAMABAD: Supply of sugar to local consumers is first priority of govt as export creates shortage and directly impacts consumers.

This was stated by Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain at a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board in Islamabad today. The meeting decided to link export of surplus sugar with its price stability in the country.

The minister said that an increase in sugar prices directly impacted the public at large. He said the government had decided to first meet the local demand of sugar and then consider exporting it to earn foreign exchange.

The meeting decided that the government in collaboration with Pakistan Sugar Manufacturing Association will formulate rules and regulations ti stabilize prices of sugar before exporting the surplus stock.

The participants also said that provinces and PSMA would ensure supply of sugar to theĀ  domestic market.
