TEHRAN: According to Iranian state media, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been martyred in attacks allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel.
State media reports claim that in addition to the Supreme Leader, his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter were also killed in the strikes.
Following the announcement, authorities in Iran declared a seven-day holiday and 40 days of mourning across the country.
The Iranian military has vowed to avenge the death of the Supreme Leader. In an official statement, the armed forces described the attack on the country’s leadership as a “grave act” and pledged a “strong and decisive response.”
The statement added that the aggressors would be punished and that Iran would take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and national security.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also issued a warning, stating that those responsible for the killing of the Supreme Leader would face severe and decisive consequences.
