Taliban have kept women deprived of education: Malala
ISLAMABAD: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has said that Taliban do not consider women as human beings and have kept girls deprived of education for over a decade.
She stated this while addressing the international conference on girls’ education in Muslim countries: challenges and opportunities arranged by the Ministry of Federal Education in collaboration with the Muslim World here on Sunday.
She said said that over 120 million girls do not go to school in the world while in Pakistan the number of out of school girls was 12 million.
Malala said that Israel has destroyed schools in Gaza and thousands of girls were displayed. Israel has wiped put any opportunity for education for the Palestinian children. She said over 90 per cent of universities have been destroyed by Israel in Gaza.
She said that the objective of the conference would remain unfulfilled if we do not highlight the issue of women education in Afghanistan and work for ensuring girls’ access to education as a basic right.
She was of the view that Taliban use religion of Islam and their culture as a shield to commit crime, including keeping women of their rights. She said none of these was allowed in the religion of Islam.
She said we should not ignore such violations and jointly work to ensure women rights including their right to education.
