Talks underway with Starlink for satellite internet in Pakistan

During last 10 years, not a single submarine cable laid to Pakistan, PTA chief tells NA committee.

ISLAMABAD: Talks are underway with Starlink for the launch of satellite internet in Pakistan, said minister of state for information technology Shiza Fatima.

She stated this while briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology at Parliament House. The meeting was chaired by committee chairman Syed Aminul Haq.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman retired Maj Gen Hafizur Rehman said that during the last 10 years not a single submarine cable was laid to Pakistan. He said that it was not the responsibility of PTA to lay the cable, was the job of the government.

However, the minister of state told the meeting that talks were underway with Starlink for the launch of satellite internet in Pakistan. She said that with the introduction of satellite internet, the issue was frequent internet disruption and slow speed would be resolved.
