WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has said that talks with the United States on the tariff issue would start very soon.
Speaking to a TV channel, Ambassador Sheikh said that Pakistan will hold talks with the United States on the tariff issue, adding he was also scheduled to meet with the US Assistant Representative for Trade. We believe that we can address American concerns.
On possible travel restrictions by the United States, he said that the final decision of the Trump administration on the issue was yet to be made. He said diplomatic efforts wee also underway in this regard.
“We have conveyed to the US authorities that Pakistan is always ready to meet international law and diplomatic obligations.”
It may be recalled that President Donald Trump has announced to impose retaliatory tariffs on various countries, including Pakistan, China and Turkey.
The president has announced to impose 29 percent tariff on Pakistani products, which will come into effect from April 9.
