KARACHI: As the holy month of Ramadan begins, spiritual Taraweeh prayers were offered across Pakistan, Taraweeh Congregations Mark Start of Ramadan in Pakistan large congregations gathering in mosques and open spaces nationwide.
In Karachi and other major cities, worshippers attended special nightly Taraweeh prayers following the announcement of the moon sighting.
The sighting was confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, after receiving testimonies from various parts of the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah on the arrival of Ramadan, describing the month as a time of blessings, reflection and spiritual renewal.
Meanwhile, the Ramadan moon was sighted in Bangladesh and India. In Saudi Arabia and other Arab and Gulf countries, the first fast was observed on Wednesday.
Following the official announcement in Saudi Arabia, the first Taraweeh prayers of Ramadan were held at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, where hundreds of thousands of worshippers gathered in a deeply spiritual atmosphere to mark the beginning of the sacred month.
