QUETTA: Terrorists have taken hostage a passenger train going from Quetta to Peshawar carrying over 400 people in the Piru Kinneri area of Kachhi (Bolan) district in Balochistan.
The armed men opened fire on the train, injuring the driver after which the train came to a halt and was taken over.
According to sources, the passenger train Jaffar Express was going from Quetta to Peshawar, during which a blast was first carried out on the track and then there was firing on the train.
According to railway officials, the Jaffar Express, consisting of nine coaches and carrying more than 400 passengers, had left Quetta at 9am today.
Balochistan government spokesman Shahid Randhawa said that there were reports of heavy firing on the Jaffar Express going from Quetta to Peshawar. An emergency has also been declared at the hospital.
The terrorists warned that they will kill the passengers if any operation was launched against them, according to media reports.
On the other hand, security sources said that terrorists attacked the Jafar Express at the Bolan Pass.
The terrorists have stopped the train in a tunnel. Security forces have reached the spot and started an operation by encircling the area.
According to security sources, the terrorists have made passengers hostage and most of the hostages are women and children. The terrorists are also in touch with their facilitators abroad, they added.
