The deadliest year for journalists, media workers

Highest number of journalists outside Gaza were killed in Pakistan and Sudan, says report.

A report has been released about threats to journalists which says that 2024 was the deadliest year for journalists and media workers in the last three decades.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has released the report on the killing of journalists in 2024. The report said that 124 journalists were killed in 18 countries last year.

Israel was responsible for killing 70 percent of the journalists in the Gaza war last year. The highest number of journalists have been killed in Pakistan and Sudan since the Israeli-Gaza war.

According to the report, targeted killings of journalists also increased last year as 24 journalists were killed in targeted killings. So far this year, six journalists and media workers have been killed worldwide.

Despite legislation and government commitments, journalists in Pakistan face threat to their lives and till now no one has been punished in murder cases of journalists in the country.
