LONDON: Thousands of people took part in a rally at 10 Downing Street calling upon the British government to stop arms supply to Israel and play its role in effecting a ceasefire in Gaza.
The rally started from Park Lane and was attended by a large number of people from different walk of life. The participants were carrying placards and banners and chanting slogans in support of a free Palestine state and an end to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Heavy contingents of police were deployed on the occasion who arrested four of the rally participants on different charged.
Speaking on the occasion, independent MP Afsana Begum and chairperson of Young Labour, Jess Barnard, expressed solidarity with the people of Gaza who have seen destruction and massacre at the hands of Israeli forces since the war started in October last year.
Addressing the British prime minister, they said that the government should end its backing of Israel in the war and stop arms supply to Tel Aviv.
It may be noted that since the war started in October 2023, over 39,000 people, including women and children, have been killed by Israeli air and ground strikes in Gaza and other areas.
International calls and even UN resolutions and International Court of Justice ruling have fallen on deaf ears as the Zionist state is being backed by most of the western powers especially the US and UK.
