SUKKUR: Railway traffic faced major disruption on Sunday after three coaches of the 146 Down Sukkur Express, traveling from Sukkur to Karachi, derailed, leading to the complete closure of the down track and causing delays in the movement of several passenger and freight trains.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the derailment occurred abruptly, throwing passengers into panic. Some travelers, who were asleep during the incident, were jolted from their berths, with a number of them reportedly falling to the floor.
Several passengers suffered minor injuries, though authorities confirmed that no fatalities or serious harm were recorded.
In response, railway officials immediately mobilized emergency crews and began work on re-railing the coaches and repairing the affected section of the track. According to officials, the restoration process is underway and is expected to take at least four hours before train services on the route can return to normal.
The derailment not only caused inconvenience to passengers on board the Sukkur Express but also triggered a ripple effect across the network, impacting schedules of multiple trains operating between interior Sindh and Karachi.
