RWALPINDI: Three police officials embraced martyrdom while fighting terrorists who attacked the police lines in the Tank city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late on Friday.
The brave policemen killed the five terrorists, including a suicide bomber, who stormed the police lines armed with explosive devices and guns, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement here.
A hitherto unknown militant outfit called Ansarul Islam claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was their first attack, according to a statement shared with Reuters news agency.
It may be noted that the KP police have played an unprecedented role in the war against terrorism and many of its officers and officials have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
For the last over a year, terrorist attacks on security forces have increased manifold in the provinces of KP and Balochistan bordering Afghanistan.
Two days back, 25 army soldiers embraced martyrdom when their check post in a remote area of Dera Ismail Khan was attacked by terrorists. These terror activities have increased after the army drove out the Pakistani Taliban forcing them to take shelter in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly asked the Taliban regime in Kabul to take action and not allow the Afghan soil for terror attacks on Pakistan. Though Kabul has assured of action and also promised an investigation into the DI Khan attack, these attacks on our security forces continue.
