HANGU: Three police personnel were martyred when terrorists launched an armed assault on a police check post in the Qazi Talab area of Hangu late Wednesday night.
The sudden attack triggered an intense exchange of fire, lasting nearly two hours, officials confirmed.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Hangu, Khan Zaib Mohmand, the terrorists opened fire at the Qazi Talab check post located within the jurisdiction of City police station, killing three officers on the spot. The martyred personnel were identified as Havaldar Waheed Shah, Constable Abdul Samadand Constable Hikmat Shah.
Police retaliated with full force, managing to kill two terrorists during the operation. However, several other attackers fled under the cover of darkness. A search and strike operation has been launched across the area to track down the remaining militants, the DPO said.
Following the attack, security has been tightened at all sensitive locations across the district. The bodies of the martyrs were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital shortly after the incident.
DPO Khan Zaib Mohmand reaffirmed that the police force remains committed to maintaining peace at all costs and will continue operations until terrorism is completely eliminated from the region.
