MURREE: With over one foot snow in the hill station of Murree, tourists have throng the area and many of them ending up in traffic jams and stranded on roads.
The rush of the tourists was a result of the snowfall after a prolonged dry spell and long weekend thanks to public holidays from Monday for general elections in the country.
Though the district administration of Murree had announced that a limited number of people would be allowed entry, there was no such arrangements and the tourists managed to slip into the hilly area.
According to reports, hundreds of families were stranded in traffic jams in the snow in different parts of Murree. People were also seen stuck at different points of the Murree Expressway.
Hotels in Murree are full to capacity and they are overcharging the visitors. Moreover, due to traffic jams and snow life has come to a standstill. The Met Office has forecast more rain and snowfall in the area from tomorrow.
Sensing the situation getting out of control, the district administration of Murree and Raealpindi has blocked roads to Murree.
It may be mentioned here that a few years ago, 22 tourists lost their live after remaining stuck in their vehicles in snow in Murree.
